Absentee

Been a bit absent from the computer lately. Needless to say the writing has slowed because of it too although I have been jotting things down in a notebook when I can. The NaNoWriMo has been a disaster for me because of health issues and the unexpected turns life throws at you just for fun. Still, I got about a third of the way through so nothing is wasted, just put forth for a future date that I hope won't be too far in the future.

Golf Ball Moment...

Yesterday was a golf ball day as referenced to in an earlier post (Oct 27) I had with the story about "THE MAYONNAISE JAR AND COFFEE".

It was a brisk day for us. The snow from the previous week had melted and the sun was shining, the kids were bundled in their winterwear while we put up our Christmas lights outside. We took the dog and the smell of fresh pine trees and cool air was soooo refreshing as we went walking through the neighbors field looking for a pine tree to place in a strategic spot near the end of the driveway. As we (or I should say my hubby) put up the lights and the kids played in the yard I noticed the time was past lunch so I grabbed some veggies and dip, juice, cheeze and crackers (boxes and all) and a big blanket and we had a picnic outside in the middle of November. For those of you in warmer climates it may not be unusual but for Southern Ontario it was VERY unusual and that's what made it fun.

When we were done the kids stood up with cheery, happy smiles thanked me for the pic-i-nic then proceeded to help (or hinder depending on how you looked at it) their father with the rest of the lights.

Then we came in and watched The Toronto Santa Claus Parade on television.

A family day through and through. It sure puts everything back into perspective. This is what is important, everything else will work itself out.

And So It Begins...

Yes, there was snow falling yesterday, snow on the ground this morning and now it is flying in light wisps outside my window. Not only this but there was Christmas music playing in the stores today.
Yahoo! Avatars
The Christmas season has arrived.

I even did a bit of Christmas shopping today finding sales that should I not have picked them up I surely would have beat my head against a wall later. Luckily most of mine is done and just the odd hard person (Men! They start around sixteen being impossible to buy for and never stop...I have at least four currently on my list and still have no idea what to get them)!

What is your shopping list like??

It Must Be the 5th Year Again

I'm sick, again.

This is an unusual year. I usually get sick three times a year and can even break it down further to once in October, January, and April. But this year, especially the past seven weeks have been just awful! After thinking (which was my first mistake) that I was finally ready to go back to my workouts after a respiratory virus, I came down with the flu on Wednesday and now have a viral tonsilitis (I feel like I'm five again and a five year old would have problems spelling that word too). Seriously, this is nuts!

Then my friend and I were talking this week (well, she was talking while I made pitiful sounds of acknowledgement from my swollen throat) and it turns out that she's not having the greatest year either. On further examination we figured for us it must be a five year theory. The last time I remember being this sick was five years ago Christmas (oh yeah, that was a cheery holiday) and again five years previous to that (why do we remember the worst times?) But that's the point. It must be for us that every fifth year our immune system goes through an internal service adjustment that leaves us suseptible to all kinds of crap while it gets itself straightened back out.

This theory however does leave for a good side--if it's true then the next four years should be relatively healthy ones for us.

Any one else notice their own pattern?

Greeting Cards

Wow, I'm blown away by the wonderful response to my greeting cards samples. For those of you who mentioned interest in purchasing a few you can email me at countryholmes @ yahoo . com (no spaces) and I'd be happy to give you more information. There are four Christmas Cards, two birthday, and a get well right now but I am expanding it to other farm animals as well. Thanks again!

Here is another sample:

Outside: Hay Santa!
Inside: Can I be Rudolf's udder-study? Mooey Christmas!

Dog Days

Sometimes I think I have the weirdest dog. We got him from the shelter last spring and he is a real sweetheart but...well...weird. First in a little Twilight Zone moment we found out about a month after we got Riley that he was born on the same day as dh's mother who passed away the year before. So for those of you who believe on a higher power like I do, I like to think Riley is a sign that she's still looking out for my kids.

Second, I have never known a dog to sleep on its back. Maybe I just haven't been around enough dogs but my family has owned four since I was a child and dh's family all have one so I discount that. This is his favorite position.

Not to mention, he also thinks he is a lap dog...I don't think so. The beast loves to play but forgets that he weighs more than my youngest. Yet he is the most passive thing I've ever seen. But we love him for all of that too.

Bazaar or Bizarre

Well the bazaar this weekend was...well...bizarre to say the least. The turn-out was really disappointing. I went into the same one two years ago and it was so busy and all the vendors did very well. This year unfortunately, most of us didn't. There just weren't many people to do business with. Oh well, that's the way it goes sometimes and there were many different bazaars going on in various areas of town that day to.

The good news is that my greeting cards did have a very good response. This at least made the day worth something.

Not Coming To Me...

I started NaNoWriMo yesterday but it is not going as well as I had hoped. I was so gung-ho for it and couldn't wait to start but now that I have, the words aren't flowing. Part of it I'm sure is that danged internal editor. (I'm trying very hard to ignore her.)

The other part is that I am debuting my greeting cards line at a local bazaar on Saturday so I've been getting all of that painted, printed, and organized as well. It shouldn't be hard to do both but added to the regular life/family stuff it seems to be.

I did today though go back to the notebook. It's much easier to cart around than a computer and I can throw a few lines or paragraphs in at a time while I'm doing other things then I'll load it into the computer tonight to see how far I've gotten. Hopefully this will work and yes, my notebook will be coming to the bazaar with me...don't want to waste a minute when I've only got the month to get it done!
