ESCAPE the Mondayn: Episode # 11

Welcome to another episode of ESCAPE the Mondayn, a weekly game show found only on the Sensibly Insane Channel. I'm your host, Stacy Dawn, and very happy you could join us.

While the editors were away, we had a little party over at The Wild Rose Press forums *g*. Elizabeth brought Antonio Banderas so I invited him over to spin the prize wheel for us today. Thank you so much for joining us Antonio.

It is my pleasure to be here, Stacy. You look captivating. Eres muy guapa.

Why thank you. It's fromIt's from ChristinaGowns.com. I heard through the party grapevine that you liked me in this dress **winks at him**
**He gives a slight bow of acknowledgement without breaking eye contact** And I heard you danced with Patrick last week. **Shrugs shoulders** He is okay but you, you have passion that can not be brought out with such simple steps.
Really?
It would give me great honor to show you what I mean.
Please do.
**A gasp escapes Stacy's lips as he steps forward and pulls her tight against the length of his hard body. The lights dim and the music begins a seductive Tango. Each sultry step echoes off the hardwood floor of the studio. Guitars raise the tempo, heartbeats speed up, temperatures rise, and the melody crescendo to an earth shattering, chest heaving, heart pounding finale.**
Oh...my...goodness. That was...incredible. You definitely have the moves.
**Breathing heavily, Antonio gently raises Stacy from his low hold and bows deeply over her hand** Muchas gracias. But I am only as good as my beautiful and passionate partner. I enjoyed our dance con todo mi corazón.
And with all my heart I thank you.

Now, before I pass out from exhilaration, we best get to our escape, although ladies, I don't think anything could compare to a Tango with Antonio at the moment. Speaking of which, please, Antonio, spin our prize wheel and tell us what one lucky contestant will win today.

Of course, mi amor. Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety-tickety.... tickety-tickety.... tickety.... tick. It is a Heart-shaped Calculator.

A heart-shaped calculator. Just like our dance. Each step calculated to the beating of each other's hearts. Hmmm, I almost hate to give this gift up...*g*

Ready everyone? Here's your escape:

You are at a masked ball. Fine costumes of every color, shape, and mastery fill the room. Midnight approaches--the allotted time to de-mask your partner. You've been swept away by one man all evening though he refuses to reveal his name. As he folds you once again in his arms, the clock ticks off its final countdown... ten... nine... eight... seven... six... five... four... three... two... one... Freeze.

Let yourself go and tell me what happens next! What costumes are you both wearing? Who is he? Give me two lines or give me twenty, it doesn't matter. Don’t hold back...let yourself escape!

Remember, you don't need to be a writer, you don't need to be a reader, heck, you don't even need to be sane if you don't want to be. This is a fun game all about you so don't be shy, don't be a lurker, just dive in and...

The studio and Producers of the Sensibly Insane Channel apologize for any formatting errors. Technical difficulties abounded while taping (typing) this episode. Thank you for your understanding.

Lazy, Hazy Days of Summer

First, Congratulations to Sarah who was the eighth post on the pick a number game yesterday!

I even hate to think how fast the summer is going by. It's almost a catch 22 situations though because we want to be outside all the time but we are going through such an icky, hot, hazy streak right now that the weather is changing daily between thunder storms and blistering heat. Neither one induces the outside fun factor so we have to keep our enjoyments to early mornings (guess it's a good thing to have early rising children LOL) or later in the evenings. I definately prefer mornings because I am a super sized hot fudge carmel sundae with extra whipped cream and a cherry on top for mosquitoes--they love me. Ugh, just my luck my biggest fans don't read LOL.

Speaking of which, I've got so many things on the go writing wise that it is hard to get one thing accomplished. Putting them in order doesn't help because a few pieces are all due at the same time. So I'm widdling away slowly figuring as long as I don't stop they'll get finished. It doesn't help when a certain someone (and you know exactly who you are) casually suggests an amazing idea for a story, which now hovers continually at the back of my mind patiently waiting for those moments when I ease up just enough for it to dart forward with a "Hey, don't forget me." I've even had to run to the dollar store this week for a new supply of notebooks.

Ahh, the life of a writer....wouldn't change even if I could.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've got a cool idea for a new contest next week so stay tuned, oh and sign up for my NEWSLETTER if you haven't already. The first edition is coming out soon!

That was Fun...Let's do it Again.

Congratulations to big sky girl who commented on the # post I chose...post twelve.

That was fun so I decided to have one more round....here's how it works again, very simple.

I'm thinking of a number. I'm writing it down and the person who comments on my blog in this #'s post will win a copy of my short story, The Theory of Love from The Wild Rose Press.

You can post TWICE at the most, that will keep it fair but give you an extra chance too. So pop back and if I haven't announced a winner on the comments yet then put in your second entry!

A simple "Hi Stacy I want a copy of your story" will suffice or you can tell me what you've been up to this week.

And a clue...this time it is less than twelve!

Ready....set.....GO!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

And stay tuned next week for a new cool contest.

Quiet 'Round the Blogistfere this Week, I think We Need A Fun Contest

Yep, with a lot of our fellow writers at the RWA National Conference, it's been quiet on the boards and the blogs lately.

So, for fun, I'm running a little contest. Hmmm, what should I do...what should I do...?

Okay, this is simple. I'm thinking of a number. I'm writing it down and the person who comments on my blog in this #'s post will win a copy of my short story, The Theory of Love from The Wild Rose Press.

I'm It

I've been tagged by Mary AND Kelley for this blog meme so I better do it LOL.

1. When did you first start blogging and why?

Just over a year ago. I started because it sounded like fun, which it is!

2. What don't you talk about?

I try not to bother with politics, rants on other people, or complaining. There's enough crap in the world, I'd rather talk about the fun stuff, things that make you go "hmmm" or the trials and tribulations of writing.

3. Are you and your blogging persona the same person?

Pretty much. What you see--or rather read LOL--is what you get. I’d say the only difference is on Mondays when I get to be a hot fashion hostess and schmooze with all the celebrities. In truth, I would probably just be staring stupidly and leaving a puddle of drool on the sidewalk if I met any of them in real life.

4. How do you use blogging to build friendships?

Living in the country with few neighbors and knowing no one else who writes, it started out as a way to meet other writers. Visiting others’ blogs is like going to a big party, meeting people, and having little mini conversations with them. Finding people going through the same thing you are easily creates friendships and I’m thankful for each and every one. Take Word Flirts for instance. Through a journey of blog hopping here and there, we all ended up finding each other’s blogs, found we had a lot in common, and took it one step further. I was thrilled to be invited to join.

5. How would you describe your writing style?

Humourous? I hope. I like to make people smile and laugh. Lighten their day a little bit. The best moment is when someone says they read my blog or writing and laughed out loud. Mission accomplished.

For fun, I’m gonna tag Sarah and Julie

Episode #10: And the Winner is...

All righty then. We've put the names in the yellow plastic construction had due to some unforseen squashing of the red fireman's hat. The shortest producer is now picking a name and the winner of the Mini Neon Pen Gelly Ring Set is....Candice!

Congratulations!

ESCAPE the Mondayn: Episode #10

Hello and welcome to ESCAPE the Mondayn. A weekly game show found only on the Sensibly Insane Channel. I'm your host, Stacy Holmes, and, in celebration of our 10th episode, we are holding a retro dance party! And, as an added bonus since I will be blogging at Word Flirts on Tuesday, it will be another two-day episode!

Remember when 'wake-me-up-before-you-go-go' neon was the new black and big hair ruled the salons? In honor of both, I'm wearing a dress from CassandraStone.com.

Remember legwarmers? Single glittered gloves? Sixteen Candles? When MTV launched it's first video and a certain handsome bad-boy got our hearts a pumpin' with Dirty Dancing? Yes, you guessed it, please welcome our celebrity guest spinner for today....Patrick Swayze.

Hello ladies.

And a big hello to you, Patrick. Before we start, I was wondering if you could take a moment to teach us some of those moves that made your movie so popular back in our prime.

I'd be happy too.

**Takes Stacy to the middle of the stage, places her hand on his shoulder and firmly tucks her other hand in his. She winks at the audience** Ladies, these are the perks of being the host.

Okay, Stacy. Just follow my lead and...**tips her chin up with a finger and points to his eyes--which are even more amazing up close** Look right here.

**Hungry Eyes plays in the background as she follows him move for move**

You're doing great.

Thank you. You're not too shabby yourself.

**she fans herself and stares at him dreamily after he finsihes on a long, low dip** Whew! You can call me, Baby, anytime.

**sexy chuckle**

**clears throat and pushs hair back where it had fallen free**
Yes, right, well, we better get back to the game. Patrick, will you please give our prize wheel a spin and tell us what one lucky contestant will win from our retro episode today.

You got it, Baby. Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety....tickety....tick. The wheel landed on a Mini Neon Pen Gelly Ring Set

Ah, yes. Give yourself a retro look by decorating your own rubbery rings with three mini neon pens. All right everyone, here is your escape:

It is your highschool reunion and you look hot! You can't wait to get in there and show old what's-his-name what he missed by ignoring you back then. The retro dance party is going strong with your favorite songs, boosting your confidence as you enter the gymnasium. Suddenly the front of your dress plasters to your chest in a cold soaking wet mass of red punch as a deep, sexy male voice is apologizes....FREEZE.

Let yourself escape and tell me what happens next. Who is your assailant? Do you find Mr. What's-his-name and exact your revenge?

Give me two lines, give me twenty, it doesn't matter. You don't have to be a writer, you don't have to be a reader, heck, you don't even have to be sane if you don't want to. Just dive in and...

Don't forget to pop into Word Flirts on Tuesday for some more Sensibly Insane musings!

Happy Birthday

Today my grandmother is celebrating her 90th birthday!

She is the sweetest, kindest women. I don't think I've ever heard an angry word come from her mouth. She was always ready with a big hug when we visited and as I got older, I would drive down and we would go out to lunch together. She never denied a helping hand whether it was simply to help with a school project or needing a bed for the night.

She isn't famous just for her kind demeaner. Taffy Tarts...drippy taffy tarts. Seriously, the family fights over them and you should have heard the uproar one year after a family get-together at one of my aunt's house, when we found out that she hid a whole batch just for herself. Then their is her made-from-scratch chocolate cake....drool.

We are driving down to where my aunts and uncles are having an afternoon tea/open house especially for her at her church this afternoon. I'm hoping to get some generation pictures taken with her, my father, myself, and the boys and I'll post them when we get them developed.

So, I just wanted to make a special note to celebrate one sweet lady. Happy Birthday Grandma!

Huh?

Procrastinating....who me?

I feel like I should be at my revisions right now instead of blog-hopping. I even feel a tad guilty even though I shouldn't because I worked on them for two solid hours this morning. The thing is, it was really early because I couldn't sleep. So even though I was a good girl and did my work, it was in effect so long ago that I feel I should be doing it now. Yet, the point of doing it early is to get everything else into the day as well....I don't know. Maybe the early morning is catching up with me because I don't think I'm making sense anyway. See, my mind isn't focused for concentrating, yeah, so it's okay not to do what I should be doing but to do what I shouldn't...and if you understood that, can you explain it back to me?

Josie

Josie
by Lora Darling

Josie is a lone female werewolf on the run from the hunters who killed her mate. If she hopes to survive, she must put her trust in Shawn Reardon, the handsome zoologist who gets in her way and nearly loses his life as a result.

A page-turner with all the right elements, Lora Darling quickly pulls you into the story with a fast paced, heart-grip of emotion that doesn't stop. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This short story is definitely another to add to your summer reading list

Re-searching...Does that mean we've already searched and lost it again?

Little late on the posting today...bad Stacy, bad.

I don't like researching. I admit it. So I end up putting it off as long as possible or just finding the reference pages and marking them to be read later. The stupid thing is that everytime I finally force my nose into the research material I find the BEST new ideas for my stories--angles I never thought of before, scenes that pop up because of a simple fact, one-liners to add the humour, tons of stuff. You would think since this happens a good 99% of the time that I would remember for the next time a story needs research and be rarin' to go. Nope, doesn't happen. It's like I blank it all out and therefore have to go through the whole process over again. Ridiculous I know, but then, have you read the title of my blog lately? Yes, just another point to prove it's true.

Needless to say, I have some great new material for a short story and am just itching to start but I'm still missing one or two little pieces that won't let my hands type the story out yet. I'm still letting those parts perculate while I continue revisions on WMAB. Darn, I really need to get over there and change that meter.

What about you? What's your process for research? Before, during, last-minute, or only when you absolutely have to?

Interesting Telephone Call

I wanted to share this while it was still fresh in my mind. I did my first tele-class conference call today. It was in conjunction with The Writing Coach class I mentioned and recently participated in being held by Jacqui Lofthouse.

The call itself was interesting with six British women and myself. When one said, "Oh, you must be the Canadian," I had the urge to tease and say, "But I'm not the one with the accent, you are" LOL. Anyway, the call dealt with procrastination and finding a way past our own personal road blocks that we set up.

The most interesting thing I came away with was Time. I always felt that I had to block a whole whack of time out, a big chunk of uninterupted time if I wanted to do my writing. So of course things would get in the way or I would find lots of smaller things to do there by giving myself another excuse to procrastinate.

This people is a myth.

Writing for simply a half hour to an hour will still get you anywhere between 500 to 1000 words a day. I have proof of this because I did it while working through her 30 day class on her blog, often accomplishing more. It's hard to rework your thinking, I know. But for instance, I can work for an hour first thing in the morning, getting my 1000 words in and still have the whole rest of the day for family and the other necessary things that need to be done. If you prefer writing at night, the same thing goes. Don't think that you will be up all night. Set a timer if it's easier and give yourself an hour, then treat yourself to your favorite TV show after or if you are lucky, go to bed. It's only an hour, or even a half hour if it's better for you.

The point is writing doesn't have to take up a lot of time but doing a little and often (as in simply a half hour or an hour every day), will help dissolve the procrastinating feelings and get that story written.

I know it's true because those last 20k on Time of Her Life over there, I did in 20 days doing it this way but it took me the wake-up call (pun intended) of the tele-class to put the ease of the processes in perspective. So if anyone is feeling overwhelmed, procrastinative, or not in the mood to write, give it a try and see how much more you get done doing a little at a time instead of thinking you have to do big chunks. For those with kids, take the hour when the kids are napping or after they have gone to bed, use a half hour while they do a puzzle or colour beside you. (You can check out my website under Mommy Writers if you need other ways to steal a half hour or an hour out of your day with young kids.)

ESCAPE the Mondayn: Episode # 9

Welcome, welcome to another episode of ESCAPE the Mondayn, a weekly game show found only on the Sensibly Insane Channel. I'm your host, Stacy Holmes. The premise of our game is very simple. I give you an escape from the mundane day you may be having and all you have to do is tell me what happens next. And, as an added bonus, one lucky contestant will win a gift from the prize wheel!

As most of you know, each week we have a celebrity guest spinner (with the no-shirt clause fully enforced **wink**) and this week is no exception. Please help me welcome this week's guest spinner...Orlando Bloom.

Hi.

I thought it only fair since we had your pirate partner on last week that we give you your turn to shine in front of the ladies.

Well, thank you. I appreciate that. And might I say the dress you are wearing is exquisite.

Of course you can...as many times as you want. It's from ChristinaGowns.com.

It's lovely.

Go on, you're such a charmer. Before I start blushing, could you please flex those pretty muscles of yours and give our prize wheel a spin.

My pleasure. Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety.....tickety-tickety-tickety.....tickety-tickety.....tickety.....tick.

So, Orlando, what will our randomly drawn contestant win this week?

It's a Mini Clipboard Set.

Ah yes, with a mini clipboard, note paper, and pen, it will be perfect for them to write down their choices for the escape today. Anybody want to know what that might be? Then let's get started.

You are in a long sexy number at a posh function where the highlight of the evening is just about to begin. The host has come out on stage and is beginning to introduce the men for the Charity Bachelor Auction...anything goes. Bachelor #1 is cute but not quite your taste. Bachelor #2 definitely has potential but not enough to put up the good money. Then there is Bachelor #3 ....FREEZE.

Let yourself escape and tell me what happens next. Do you choose Bachelor #3 or wait for someone better? What type of evening do you plan with your lucky man?

Give me two lines or give me twenty, it doesn't matter. Don't hold back...let yourself escape! Remember, you don't need to be a writer, you don't need to be a reader, heck, you don't even need to be sane if you don't want to be. This is a fun game all about you so don't be shy, don't be a lurker, just dive in and...

Wonderful Day

Yesterday was a wonderful day. Not that I don't love my family but everyone needs a little alone time to recharge...I'm sure you all can relate.

As much as I wanted to, no, I didn't go shopping for the simple reason that if I did I would have spent money. Not a good time to do that right now. But, I did paint my fingernails AND toenails for the wedding (which was lots of fun and oh, the food!). I sat outside on my front porch and enjoyed the view. A lovely breeze was blowing and I had a tall glass of iced-tea while I wrote in my notebook...it was Heaven!

Speaking of writing, it only added to the good day because I finally had an idea for the contest The Wild Rose Press is holding (for more info go HERE it's pretty cool) The problem is, or rather was, that I have a hard time coming up with ideas to fit something. I have plenty of ideas, a backlog of them at the moment, which I am grateful for, but I've rarely been able to come up with one when I have to fit a certain line, or theme, or structure. Yes, I admit, I like to do things my way which is why I find it hard to find places for my writing because they often don't quite fit the structure certain lines want. For things like this contest, I could fret for weeks and not come up with a thing. Well, yesterday I did. BAM--out of the blue. My muse must have felt generous although I must say she will be making me work for some of the research but still. I've got that 'oh yeah' feeling about the story. That zing that gives you the confidence to put it down on paper at least.

What about you? Is it easy for you to be given a topic and run with it, or do you struggle as well?

Something Amazing Happened...

I'm all alone.

Yes, I. Am. All. Alone.

We have a wedding to go to tonight and my sister agreed weeks ago to watch the boys for us. This week she suggested she'd pick them up last night and have them for the weekend. Yeah, like I'm gonna say no. This is also my husband's weekend to work. He left at 6:30am which means I woke up two hour later than usual to a quiet house.

I'm sitting here in stunned silence not quite sure what to do with myself. The possibilities of this divine event are so numorous! I don't even have to get ready for the wedding until late this afternoon which leaves the day W I D E open. Wow, I'm just not used to this kind of freedom.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh, don't forget, this is the last weekend for the contest for my new release, The Theory of Love. You can get all the details on the right side there under contests.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hmmm, so what do I do first? Sunbath with a good book....do a little shopping....go back to bed....

What's on Your Desk?

It's 5:45am right now and everyone else is upstairs sleeping. Unusual? You bet your dented pillow it is. Why am I here? I have no idea.

So, here I am sitting at my desk about to go through my morning routine of e-mail/blog checks while holding my eyelids open with crayola crayons because they don't think my brain has the right to keep the rest of me awake. I'm also looking at all the crap on my desk deciding when I'm going to clean it off **snort, yeah right** and noticed a few things in amongst the cows herding space on the top. There is a picture of Disney's The Little Mermaid (my favorite D movie ever) that I cut out of the CD package when I was sixteen and another cutting of a medieval woman looking off at a castle in the distance (beautiful artistry) that I have had for about as long. There is a pen my mother-in-law gave me with an angel and my birthstone as well as a hotwheel of an old red VW Beetle punch-buggy. These are things that have survived my moves, my desks, various rooms, and various clean-outs. Sure, there are pictures of my husband and boys, a great black and white Stetson ad with hunky Matthew McCaunehey (too early to spell) which is new (believe it or not my hubby brought it home for me) and many a cow roaming the hills and vales of my tumbled desk. But these other simple things have been with me for...let's not count and just say a long time. Inspiring? Maybe. Comfortable? Definately.

Look around your desk. Is there something that has to be there? Do you notice something that has just always been there?

Rollercoaster Writer

It's been up and down on the writing front for the last few weeks between family obligations and the hubby being on holidays. So this week, I finally had time to write and did I? No. I could blame it on the extra two kids I had or the extremely crappy weather we've been having but in truth, I'm just on the writer's rollercoaster.

Even though I'm terrified of them in the physical world, I can't seem to stop riding the mental one. I'm a rollercoaster writer. I have highs and lows, times when the words are coming at such a rapid pace I can't get my fingers to move fast enough, and times when I feel I'm on the slow drag up the hill, viewing the summit but just not able to get myself moving.

Sometimes I wish I could be a highway writer. You know, the ones who are on a long, straight, and even course with narry a curve or bump setting them off their routine. Sure, they have an exit or two or a pit-stop every once in a while to deal with life but then they just cruise back on and continue progressing well, getting the stories written one after the other after the other. I'm not saying that road is easy, heck no, but its the fact that they stay on it. They set their goals, stick to their daily routine, and produce at an even cycle.

That is my goal. To be a highway writer because right now, I'm getting awfully sick of and on the peaks and valleys.

Are you a rollercoaster writer or a highway writer?

A New Friend

Okay, so I jumped into this myspace thing yet I still don't know what the purpose of it is. If someone can explain this please, please do.

BUT a really cool thing happened. I have a new friend and his name is Pierce Brosnan. Yes, people. My teenage crush and sexy British actor is now my friend. Never in a million years did I think something like this would ever happen!

Okay, if (and that's a big IF) he really is on myspace **snort** more than likely it is an assistant's assistant's uncle's wife's neice's friend's daughter who is taking care of the site but I'm more inclined to think it another big fan with fantastical dreams like mine. Still, as it says above, I live in my own little world and my world contains Pierce Brosnan as a friend whose picture is in a place of honour on my friends' board...please, don't break my fantasy, us middle aged house-wives have so few. You can check him out at My Space.

ESCAPE the Mondayn: Episode # 8

Hello and welcome to another episode of ESCAPE the Mondayn, a weekly gameshow found only on the Sensibly Insane Channel. I'm your host, Stacy Holmes.

I have an exciting announcement to make before we start today's show! Since I will now be blogging at Word Flirts on Tuesdays, our game show will be a TWO DAY event every week! That's right. Not only do you get an extra day to be a contestant but you can still catch my Sensibly Insane musings at the same time, Tuesdays at Word Flirts!

With that great news, let me direct your gaze to my great gown from The Tudor Shoppe. I'm wearing it not only for the amazing frontal enhancement but also in honour of today's guest celebrity spinner....Johnny Depp.

You look marvelous, Luv **he drawls in Capt'n Jack fashion**

**giggles** Why thank you. You have a huge fan base, probably more now since you've complied with our no-shirt spinner rule but I must say, I'm related to your identical twin.

Really?

Seriously, I'm not captain kidding. **turns to the awestruck audience staring in envy, their eyes begging for a name and introduction** Sorry ladies. The twin is also taken. Believe it or not it's my brother-in-law. Yes, mmm, mmm, mmm what a lucky sister I have.

Speaking of lucky, Johnny, please give our prize wheel a spin and tell us what one lucky, randomly-drawn contestant could win today.

Righty then...

Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety.....tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety....tickety....tick.

The wheel landed on a Hand Beaded Bracelet.

Ah yes, perfect for any pirate's booty. A beautiful white and blue hand beaded bracelet...but whose arm shall it grace? Let's get to the escape so we can find out. Here we go...

You are shipwrecked on a deserted island, which compared to the boring company cruise boat you fell off of is a major plus. Amongst the debris rolls in a crate of rum. Smiling, you open the first bottle but instead of the sweet liquor, smoke glides out and forms into a hot, hunky Genie...FREEZE.

Let yourself escape and tell me what happens next!

You don't have to be a writer. You don't have to be a reader. Heck, you don't even have to be sane if you don't want to be. Give me two lines, give me twenty, it doesn't matter. Set your mind free and... Anyone can play! Just remember to put your name on your escape to be entered into the draw. So come out of lurkdom and have some fun then remember to catch me Tuesday at Word Flirts!

Finally a Little Relaxation

My hubby spent yesterday morning cutting the yard (just over an acre so it took a bit) while I tried to get some work done. Then we all packed up and went to the beach later in the afternoon. It was wonderful. Most people were packing up from being there for the whole day so it wasn't overly busy. I had a good book and sunscreen while all the boys played in the frigid water and built sandcastles. Can't get much more relaxing than that!

Today we went up to the Riverview Park and Zoo, a free zoo about forty minutes north of us. Had a great surprise in that my husband's best friend and his family were there. They live over two and a half hours away but have a trailer only an hour away and happened to be down this weekend. We went around the zoo together then went out to lunch; it was a great visit. Looking forward to seeing them again in August when we'll pop up to their trailor for the day.

Tomorrow we'll be heading to the f-i-l then the other b-i-l for a swim and supper. Wow, suddenly we are social butterflies instead of hermit crabs like usual LOL.

Thank you to all who have entered the contests so far! There is still time to enter! You can see the details HERE.

So Hot He's Smokin'

Let me start by saying that I don't readily appove of smoking for the normal bad for yours and others health reason. Having said this also let me tell you that both my parents smoked for as long as I can remember, my father quite almost a year ago but my mother still chains, as did my mother-in-law who died three years ago from lung cancer.

Having said all that, I'm about to totally contradict myself. What is it about a guy smoking that gives him a sexy look. I'm not saying every guy but some. Yesterday on our travels, I came across two different ones. I don't know if it was the woman or the writer in me taking in the relaxed pose and the way they held the cigarette loose but confident in their hand but HUBBA-HUBBA. Is it that old fashion bad-boy image of the leather jacket smoking behind the school? Does it go farther back than that to the old west where the strong, tough cowboys used to wrap their own or smoke cheroot? I don't know but every once in a while it does it for me.

Again, let me stress though, I do NOT like smoker's breath nor do I approve of smoking. I'm probably even going to get some controversy over this but hey, I'm just telling it like it is.

Men and Holidays

I love my husband, I really do. I say this because he's on holidays this week...read, nothing is getting done. It is nothing for him to say, "Let's go here or there or..." you get the picture. And when I try to explain that finances won't allow it, or it rains like the torrential downpoured for the last two day, he gets mopey and well, acts like a man.

Take today for instance. We are supposed to go to the zoo, fine, great even. But then he is going to his brothers to fix the second car. He needs us there with the first car incase he can't get the second car going. Has he thought further than that...no. He won't be doing this until 5:30 tonight. His brother lives over an hour away from our home and when they get doing car stuff, it will be at least 9:30 before they are done. Hello! Two young kids in tow. We can visit his other brother and family who also have young kids but I feel like we're intruding and they'll feel obligated to feed us unexpectedly etc. It's just awkward and makes it a late night all around and after a day of sun and walking around the zoo...not looking forward to it.

I just wish he would think things out instead of just what he has to do sometimes. I'm always the one who has to think of the children/adjust/and pack according to his whims and he gets all mopey if I say one thing in difference to his 'wonderful' idea. I know, I know, it's one of the perks of being a mother, but sometimes it would just be nice to be thought of as a person.

Oh crap, that was a whiney rant wasn't it. Sorry, not what I planned to post for today.

Flirty News and Reviews

Hope you all had a great holiday!!
You have to check out the new blog premiering today, Word Flirts
from a sassy group you just might recognize. I'll be the every other Tuesday gal.

* * * * * * *
And I was tickled to get this review of my story from Peggy:

"A charming and witty story, The Theory of Love is an absolute enjoyable read. Stacy Dawn's contemporary voice is full of wonderful humor and thoroughly entertaining."

* * * * * * *
Back to the writing front after a week of getting all my sites and promo stuff out of the way. I'll have to get over there and change the meter for my revisions because I've done more. That's tops on my list while working in a short piece. It happens to be another time travel but my hero decided he didn't want to be a medival lord but a swashbuckling pirate. Men, can't live with them, can't shoot them! Do you ever have this problem with your characters? Everything is sorted out and then suddenly they say, "Uh, uh, uh, ain't gonna happen."

* * * * * * *
Oh, and don't forget to check out my new CONTESTS from the last post. I'll be picking a total of 4 winners!

Contests!

(Don't forget to check below this post to see who won yesterdays episode of ESCAPE the Mondayn)

To help me celebrate and promote my new story, I am announcing two contests. Yes, you heard me right, TWO contests and feel free to enter both because I will be choosing TWO winners in each contest...that’s a chance at FOUR prizes! All winners will be chosen on July 18th, 2006.

Contest #1: Riddle Me This

The Prize: One winner will receive A Strawberry Daiquiri Pedicure Set including Foot Lotion, Emery Board, Daiquiri Toe Separators, and Terry-cloth Slippers all in its own zippered carrying case and a promo pack. The second winner will receive a Stationary Pack including pens, notebooks, stapler/pencil sharpener set, To-Do list, and a few other little goodies.

The Contest: It can’t get much easier than this. Simply buy my story (available at www.thewildrosepress.com) and answer this simple question: What happened to Abbey’s hair?
E-mail the answer to me at stacy@stacydawn.com and you will be entered into the prize draw. It’s that simple.

Contest #2: Row, Row, Row Your Blog

The Prize: Two winners will receive a copy of my story plus a promo pack.

The Contest: Remember how when we were young (and not so young, LOL) and sang Row, Row, Row Your Boat in a round robin fashion? That’s what this contest is about. I’ll start by giving you the verse on my blog below. All you have to do is copy and paste the blurb with the picture onto your blog or myspace (or both) then invite your friends and readers to do the same thus carrying on the ‘song’.

Once it's up, send me an email at stacy@stacydawn.com with the link and, once confirmed, I'll enter your name into the prize draw.

Oh, and here’s the fun part: When you invite your friends to play make sure they mention your name. When they e-mail me with their link and I see your name in their note or on their blog, not only will their name be put into the draw but so will yours...again! So, if you get three of your friends to put the promo up, you could get a total of 4 entries into the draw! The more your name is entered the better chance you have to win!

Here’s the 'verse':

ESCAPE the Mondayn: Episode # 7

Hello and welcome to our ALL AMERICAN episode of ESCAPE the Mondayn, a weekly game show found only on the Sensibly Insane Channel. I’m your host Stacy Holmes. How do you like my dress? I wanted to make sure I fit in with the celebration today.

Speaking of our celebrating, please help me welcome an all American hero as our celebrity guest spinner today. The man-of-steel himself...Brandon Routh.

Thank you.

No, thank you for joining us today. With such a busy schedual promoting your new movie, I'm happy you took a moment to play. And with a chest worthy of the man-of-steel, I see you've already complied with our rule of no shirt spinners. Mmmm, mmm, mmm. Are you ready to start then?

Ready ,willing, and able.

I'll just bet you are.

Okay contestants, here's how our game works. I'm going to give you an escape from your mundane day and all you have to do is tell me what you are doing. Don’t forget, a random draw will be made at the end of the episode and one lucky contestant will win a gift from the prize wheel which Brandon will so abley spin for us.

Now?

Yes, you go right ahead then tell us what today's prize will be. Wait, okay, now I have a better view. Go on.

Okay....tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety....tickety...tick...The prize wheel landed on a Super Jumbo Deck of Cards.

Super Jumbo huh? **grins at thought of other super jumbo things** Yes, well, ah, we'd better see what our escape is for today. Ready everyone?

Here we go...

You are sitting at your desk eating your lunch because you've had a crazy morning at work. Meetings, lectures, idiots all around. While so not enjoying your cardboard tasting sandwich, you log onto the internet and check out the official lottery numbers. Every number matches your ticket exactly....FREEZE.

Let yourself dream, let yourself escape and tell me what happens next. Give me two lines, give me twenty, it doesn't matter. Remember, you don’t need to be a writer, you don’t need to be a reader, heck, you don’t even need to be sane if you don’t want to be. This is a fun game all about you so don’t be shy, don’t be a lurker, just dive in and...

Note: Anyone can play but don’t forget to include your name! Without a name you can’t be put into the draw for the prize wheel gift!
