Stacy...Sensibly Insane

I have my own little world, but it's okay - they know me here.

Thursday, August 31, 2006

I got my next cover today. This is another humorous short story that I loved writing. It's dedicated to my friend because she's been through things like this a few times LOL.

They are really trying to individualize the short stories now. I absolutely LOVE the little computer in the corner.

Playing around with ways to let a co-worker know she wants to share more than just ‘the look’ over the staffroom coffeemaker, a nervous newspaper employee inadvertently sends him a made-up classified ad. Will her colossal mistake put her in next week’s gossip column or land her the best deal of her life?

Coming soon from The Wild Rose Press.

Also catch my interview Friday with Bebe Thomas at Conversations with Almost Famous Writers.

What's Your Theory of Love? Entry Posts

Remember, I’ll be making a random draw for the Book Bag Full of Goodies at the end of the post from all the entries recieved . Thank goodness I had the forethought to make it a random draw though...there are just too many good ones to choose from, it was hard enough deciding which ones to post today!

myspace code

And now, without further ado, I present to you some of Your Theories of Love...

I believe the strongest love comes from good friendships. I know it's corny to say, but my husband is my best friend. Even when our sex life is a bit "ho hum" with have this great friendship that keeps us close. Having a friendship to fall back on when things are bad has helped us stay strong when we've been through things like infertility and miscarriage that I've seen tear my friends marriages appart.
by Bec

Hmm... the theory of love. The one theory I've learned is that you've got to go through stuff to get to where you're meant to be. I've thought on this loads ever since I met my soul-mate who last year became my husband. He's 12 yrs younger than me but I know from the bottom of my heart that he's the 'one'. I don't regret past experiences because if I hadn't been through them (other relationships) I wouldn't have got to the place I was supposed to be today. I guess what I'm trying to say is, my theory of love is fate!
by MsCreativity

I believe in infatuation at first sight. Is infatuation part of love? Is it the first stepping stone? I believe there are various levels of love - and the love that you have for one another on your wedding day is nothing like the one you share on your tenth wedding anniversary. My love for my husband has deepened and matured over the years (we just celebrated our 7th anniversary). We have had our share of hard times, but it has only strengthened our commitment to each other. So in a nutshell, here is my theory: Love has several stepping stones and with both partner's commitment, it can mature into a strong, stable, trustworthy, and comfortable love. Now that is not to say that it is BORING - far from it! Putting "romance" which, I believe, is different from "love", into the equation is an absolute must!
by Melissa Marsh

Pheremones baby! *haha* Well, I think love is rollercoaster. You get your highs and lows, but overall it's an awesome ride!
by Jodie

I believe souls resonate to souls they have known throughout time. It's similar to the idea of having a soul-mate, but on a broader scale. Love at first sight? It happened to me. Ahmed and I had seen photographs of one another, but until he knocked over a book display at the Barnes and Noble cafe and superstore, and I looked up into the most incredible, hammered gold eyes I had ever seen-- the connection didn't happen. When it did, something clicked, plunked, tumbled into place, and there was no going back. But I don't believe that only happens when you meet the love of your life. I've had it happen on a smaller scale with the friends I have made-- and kept-- over a lifetime. Sometimes when we meet someone there is an instant attraction that has nothing to do with sexuality. It's a recognition. Your soul, your heart, even the part of your mind that makes your thought process unique, feels a resonant echo. You know. When we embrace that, our lives are more fulfilled and happier. I know people who are content. I know people who surround themselves with others (often family, but not always) who make them unhappy. But I've always listened to the universe when it places special people in my path. I hold on to friends with whom I have a natural, easy rapport. I've had some very difficult times in my adult life, everything from cancer to incurable lung disease, but I am a very happy woman.Recognizing love when it shines on me, and honoring that gift when it comes, is why.
by ShandaLear

My theory of love is that genuine love is total acceptance. Both in friendships and love relationships, acceptance is the most important thing to me. It doesn't matter how much things change, the love goes on.
by Jen

Saying I Love You Without Saying “I Love You”

Put your feet against my legs, I’ll warm them up for you.
You’ve had a hard day, let me fix dinner for you.
I can watch the race some other time, let’s go on a picnic.
It’s raining pretty hard. You wait here and I’ll go bring the car up.
Let me help you with the house cleaning, we can get it done quicker and have more time to spend together.
Why don’t you pick out a nice movie , I’ll make some popcorn and we can snuggle up on the couch.
I’m sorry you don’t feel good. You stay in bed. I’ll take care of you.
Is the storm scaring you? Let me hold you in my arms, you’ll be fine.
You look tense, let me give you a massage.

by Michael R. Bulger

Hmm...theory of love. I think love can be many things. It can be love at first sight; it can be best friends taking their relationship further; or it can be like my love...we met when very young, in high school, and now that we're both over 40 and still together, I think it works because we matured in the same way. We both want the same things out of life, respect one another's interests and take the time to enjoy each other's company even when life is going nuts around us. It's the caring he shows when he rotates my tires; it's the way I make him a delish dinner when he's had a stressful's remembering why we're together in the first place and that the journey that we're taking is important.
by Lisa

I can honestly say, that my theory of love, as proven by the fact that I'm still married, is that it was lust at first site and we made a mutual decision to build on that, couple that with his love of my job as a beer store girl in university, we formed the kind love of relationship we both knew we wanted. It surprises me still that it mirrors the love relationship my parents had. After all this time together, we still do fun and crazy things to keep our romantic life in tune with our love life. To us, being romantic and being in love are not the same thing...We have blind dates (with each other) and I recently found out that I have a cabana boy named Juan Sexymaaan (one sexyman said with a spanish accent). Juan surprised me one day with a glass of red wine while I was having a bath, introduced himself while I took my first sip, and it ended up coming out my nose...then the former porn star known as Hugh Longshaft showed up to towel me off. My husband has a great sense of humour and isn't afraid to play...when I think what would have happened if I hadn't let myself be stolen from another boy, brings tears to my eyes. We love each other passionately, for who we both are as individuals, for who we are when we're together, and for who we are romantically. It's comfortable and wonderful and warm. Ummm...I can't wait for him to get home from work! LOL
by Jacqui D.

Didn't I tell you they were awesome! And that's really only about a third of the entries but with all the problems with Blogger lately, I didn't want to risk overloading it or I would have put them all up.

So now, let's get to the good part. The winner of the random draw for the Book Bag is...Nicole Reising. Congratulations!! Send me an email with your address and I'll send you your prize.

Thank you very much to everyone who entered!

It's NOT Crap.

I might get a slam or two in the comments for this but there has been a few things on other people's blogs and a number of articles etc that I just have to take a moment to disagree with. In the beginning I agreed then yesterday, you know what, I thought, no, this is all wrong.

1st Drafts

Articles and a number of authors and industry people tell you, "Don't worry, your first draft is gonna be crap so just get it down on paper then you can move on to revising it to make it better etc etc etc". To me, this is all wrong.

Now, I'm not saying you can spit it out and send it in as is, heck no. But seriously, how do you feel knowing something you write is crap? Does this make you feel good? Confident? Ready to get back to your wip above anything else? Motivate you to keep writing? NO it doesn't. It sure makes me feel inferior, depressed, and unmotivated thinking if I write crap, why bother, no one is going to read it.

The problem is, we all feel like this anyway as we write because of our own insecurties and fears so we really don't need anyone else pushing those buttons. We take care of it ourselves very well thank you.

I had a hard time getting back into my wip yesterday because once I got past my usual it-doesn't-have-to-be-perfect-the-first-time syndrome then I was thinking “well, the first draft is crap anyway so just write” Oh yeah, there’s two great motivational mantras for aren’t perfect and you write crap.... you aren’t perfect and you write crap.... you aren’t perfect and you write crap. Is it any wonder I barely got 1000 words done yesterday.

Do you see what I’m talking about yet? Yes, I know I’m not perfect and I know I don’t write like the NY Times best sellers but right now I am my only cheering squad and if I tell myself I suck then what else do I have to believe.

My point is. Your first draft may not be readable, sellable or even understandable. But I bet if you read it over with a different eye/a different mind set, you WILL be able to pick out some good things, things you can build on or use. Maybe it is only one sentence that you laugh at or one small scene that really hit the mark on what you wanted the emotion to be. Maybe it is only a line every five pages or one scene out of every ten but something when you read it that gives you that tingly, excited jolt and makes you say, “Hey, that’s good, I really like that.”

Take that puppy and run with it!! Feed off the power of that one line or one scene in your mind while you write telling yourself that yes, I can do this and I know when I go through it again I’ll have major revisions but that will only make it better! Those revisions are what will bring my story together.

So please, in defense of the poor first draft, don’t think of it as crap, think of it as a base. A base of ideas, one liners, a few awesome descriptions, and a good scene or two that will hold YOU up to continue writing. A foundation to build upon, to grow slowly but surely into the story you want to tell, in the way you want to tell it. I hear a lot how the first draft is never the same as the final version but I bet there is something there that stayed from the beginning, a few bricks....a line...a scene...a piece of dialogue that they built upon to get that ms done and out to a publisher.

ESCAPE the Mondayn: Episode #15

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Welcome to another episode of ESCAPE the Mondayn. I'm your host, Stacy Dawn, and this won’t be my only celebrity stop this week. I’m honored to be Featured Author of the Week on Candice Gilmer’s Blog, I will be presenting What’s Your Theory of Love contestants right here on the Sensibly Insane Channel on Wednesday, and I'll be the guest interviewee on Conversations with Almost Famous Writers on Friday.

Whew! Busy, busy. But I promise it won’t last long. I have to get my head buried back into my wip asap.

So, why don’t we get this party started. Please welcome our guest celebrity spinner from the former hit show Alias...Michael Vartan!

Hello, Michael.

Hi, Stacy. Thanks for having me.

You are very welcome. Now, **sweeps hand up and down his chest** if you don’t mind.

**confused look** What?

The has to come off.

**bashful smile** Really? I was hoping maybe...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Oh no. This is one of those firm—hopefully, very firm—rules, hon. Let’s see that bod.

Okay. **sexy self-consious laugh as slowly takes jacket off then undoes buttons**

Come now, Michael. If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were teasing us.

Who me? **winks**

Mmm, mmm, mmm, just the way I like our guests. So, why don’t you do a little agent flex for the ladies and spin our wheel.

You got it. Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety...tickety...tick.

And what will one randomly drawn contestant win today?

It’s a Mini Pocket Butterfly Manicure Tool.

Oooh, compact and handy to throw in the purse for those nail emergencies.

Speaking of emergencies, here’s your escape:

Alarms suddenly start going off all over the place in the building where you work. Suddenly the sprinkler system kicks in drenching everything in sight including you and the sexy co-worker in the next cubical...FREEZE.

Let yourself escape and tell me what happens next! Give me two lines or give me twenty, it doesn't matter because it's all for fun.

You don't have to be a writer. You don't have to be a reader. Heck, you don't even have to be sane if you don't want to be. Just open up and let yourself...

And be sure to keep your eyes open next week for a new revamping of your favorite Blogland game show!

Couple of Things

I got tagged by Candice for this:

When did I start writing...

In all honesty, I must have been about nine. Most of them I made up in my head but some I wrote down. My first submission was to the kids magazine, Highlights. It was rejected so I started that early too LOL.

Highschool was when I started really putting things down on paper. We had an old antique typewriter that I used. It was kinda cool but of course editing was a pain LOL. I made the mistake of throwing most of that work out (I know, I still cringe myself) I should have kept it and now am fervent in my efforts to save work whether I ever plan to use it again or not.

I had my first short story accepted a few months after I started dating my then future husband. It came out in STAR magazine (which doesn't do short stories anymore) and was available at the check-outs in his store. Well, everyone thought I had written the story about him LOL. In truth, I had written it way before him but he got teased so much it was hilarious.

And the rest, as they say is history.

You have to check out this piece on Discipline in writing that Stephanie mentioned on her blog. I thought it was quite true for me at least and nice to know that I'm not the only one thinking the same way.

Karen gets the DQ Strawberry Sundae Lip Balm for her comparison of housecleaning and wips:

"Hmmm, with the way I'm writing my current wip, once I'm finished with the first
draft I'm going to have to organize and rearrange like I have to do with my hall
closet. Both of these things are a mess!!!! But I'm still enjoying the writing
and I still love shoving crap into my closet. LOL "

Loved it. Email me with your snail mail, Karen, and I'll get it out to you.

Going to the Jungle!

Thank you all so much for your congratulations and support for my first full-length. To add to this news. I just found out today on the The Wild Rose Press boards that they have a new printer and all novels will be available on! That will be amazing!

Here's the blurb about my future book:

Wanna Make a Bet?

When aspiring artist and purposefully single Sophie Montgomery mutters those four fateful words, her sexy neighbor, Jay Coltrane, pounces on the opportunity to prove she’s not as immune to him as she thinks. Before she knows it, Sophie finds herself not only betting against a seduction, she’s betting against her own ability to keep her dreams intact and a certain luscious landscaper out of them.

So, I plan to clean off my desk this week--kind of pre-fall cleaning so to speak--get organized and catch up on all your blogs! I've missed reading what everyone has been up to this week and how all the BIAW trials went.

Then, starting Monday, I want to get back to some serious writing. I have a couple Christmas stories floating around that I would like to submit to two different epubs plus my regular projects that I am still playing with.

I've got a little list going of updates that I have to do on my blog roll so if I haven't got you on my list down on the left hand side then just send me an email and I'll be updating it sometime next week as well as the project meters on the right etc. It's all on the long list of 'catch-ups' that I've been meaning to get done. Like I said, I'm cleaning the work-house so I can get on to the good stuff.

Cleaning, cleaning, hmmmmm, that puts me in mind of a contest *g*, I know, everything does. Here goes, and this won't be random, I'm going to actually choose my favorite answer to this question....

Relate a housecleaning chore to cleaning up your wip/ms and the winner will receive a Dairy Queen Strawberry Sundae Lip Balm as an after cleaning sweet treat!

Holidays and Happy Dances

Well, we are all back safe and sound from our camping trip. It was the first one ever with the boys and they were great. We had a blast.

I must put this forth because it was a moment to note for a romance writer. At the campsite I was coming down from the showers and there was an old model, shiny baby blue, VW Beetle. Standing next to it was a young hunk wearing nothing but low riding blue jeans. Yowza! Karen, you would have loved his back. With the early morning sun coming down just so and his hair a little longer and all golden highlights...oh yeah, GOOD MORNING!

But even better than that, I come home to a contract in my email for my FULL LENGTH NOVEL!!!

myspace code

This ms was turned down my Harlequin mainly because the premis didn't fit their line (and also just before the Temptation line folded) so I rallied with it a bit and sent it to The Wild Rose Press who loved it. Because it will be put out as a Single Title it will be available not only in ebook but also in PRINT. OMG I'm going to be able to hold my very own book in my hands!!

Wow, and we are going to the Canadian National Exibition (CNE) tomorrow in Toronto so I barely have time to breath from one event to the next LOL.

ESCAPE The Mondayn: Episode # 14

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Welcome to another episode of ESCAPE the Mondayn here on the Sensibly Insane Channel. I’m your host, Stacy Dawn, and...what? My dress? Oh, you noticed the unusual choice today did you? Well, it goes along with today's episode. This hosty is venturing into the wild as you read this pre-taped show. Yes, I’ll be hiking up the tent and building my campfire but I couldn’t let that stop me from being stylish now could I?

And, because of my little holiday, this will be an extended episode until Wednesday night when I return to the studios. With that in mind, however, I have some extra special help to make sure you don’t miss my sensibly insane musings on Wordflirts, Tuesday so be sure to check it out because there is a little something 'sweet' there you have a chance to win.

Now, let’s get to the fun part. Right from the Pink Carpet of the Catanetwork RCA’s this past Friday, please welcome our special guest celebrity spinner....Christian Bale!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Hellooo, Christian. I’m glad to see you’ve already prepared for the show.

Of course **sexy smile**

For those of you who missed it, Christian did an impromptu audition for this show at the RCA ceremonies

And I’m grateful you agreed to let me come today.

**eyes him up and down with sultry smile** Look at you, sweetheart, how could I not? Besides, as I recall, you were also requested by one of our contestants which pretty much makes you a sure thing. Her name is Melissa; I’ll introduce you after the show.

I’ll look forward to it.

Trust me, so will she. Now, why don’t you flex those super hero arms of yours and give our wheel a spin to see what one lucky, randomly drawn contestant could win?

Here goes...tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety....tickety...tick.

What is the prize for today?

A funky-fish bookmark.

Oh yes, though not the same kind I'll be fishing for, this oversized funky-fish bookmark is probably made from the same rubbery material as that sexy bat suit of yours. Hmmm, I think I’d like to see that up close and personal sometime.

**roguishly raises brow** Name the day.

We will definitely discuss that after the show as well. But first, let’s give these ladies their three-day escape:

You’ve left the resort to do some hiking along the breathtaking ridge. The day is beautiful and clear and the fresh air and exercising is exhilarating. Upon turning back, you come to a divide in the road and pause having no idea which route you had come up. After a frantic search, you discover you lost your map. Oh, well. Both path’s go down so you leave it to destiny and choose. Two steps onto the path of choice a firm hand grabs your arm. “Trust me, you don’t want to go that way.” ....FREEZE.

Let yourself escape and tell me what happens next. Who stopped you? Did you want to be stopped? What do you do now?

Give me two lines or give me twenty, it doesn’t matter, just go with the flow.

Remember, you have extra time to play this week so don’t forget to drop into contestant’s row and play:

And don't forget to check out the 'sweet' surprise in my post on Tuesday at Word Flirts!

Interviews and Dates--of all kinds ;)

Whew! What a day that was. I think the Catanetwork Reviewers' Choice Awards were a big success! Don't worry if you missed anything. It's all still posted on their message boards so go take a look.

I have some interviews coming up. One by Crystal Jordon which was supposed to be bumped up to today (Saturday) and another by Bebe Thomas and her new Conversations with Almost Famous Writers blog which will have a new one every Friday. (She interviewed Crystal this week LOL) My interview is schedualled for September 1st so I'll keep you posted. As well, check it out September 8th for a fellow Wild Rose Press author Marty Kindall.

The week of August 27th, I'm going to be the featured author on Candice Gilmer's Blog. She's got some cool stuff happening lately there too.

Just to throw out a couple more dates for you, since I'm at it. September launches the official Grand Opening of The Wild Rose Press. They are have a celebration chat on September 10th at 8pm. I'll keep you posted for details. If any of you are interested in submitting to The Wild Rose Press, one of our editors, Rhonda Penders, has a chat coming up at The Romance Studio, August 27th at 9pm. I'm planning to be there too if you want to stop by and say hi LOL.

I think that's all for today. I'm still pooped from yesterday's activities. My date, Matthew, kept me up all night celebrating *wg*

Reporting in from the Pink Carpet

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Wow, this is gonna be one big event! I'm so excited!

I really hope you can all make it tomorrow. Again, here's the link to the CataNetwork and from there you can scroll down a bit to where it says message boards. It starts at noon.

And congratulations to Julie! She won the birthday game by correctly guessing the 24th of April as my sister's birthday.

Off to the Toronto Zoo with the family!

I've been tagged by the ladies at Scribes' Sanctuary.

"If you could write a novel about any subject, what would it be?"

Even given the fact most of us write romance, I'd still make it a romantic story but maybe more epic or a group of shorter stories that all flow together one into the other into the other. It would span time from medival to present day and maybe even beyond.

On the Writing Front....FORE!

I must say I am so impressed with all of you doing the BIAW. I've read great effort from everyone. Made me feel kinda guilty because I haven't done much writing over the past week.

Then as I was working on the script yesterday, I realized that WAIT, I am writing. Maybe not my regular stuff but it still counts as creative writing. Maybe that's why even though I feel guilty for not doing my writing, I don't feel one ounce of the depression I get when I can't get to my stories because in essense I am still crafting and having fun. And considering the blockers in my way, namely a six-foot football physique on holidays, I haven't done too bad. Over the past five days, I have 15 pages done and another four segments still to add to the show.

This is one of those rare times when I can actually say I love golfing--yes, he's gone golfing today so I can get some more work done here for a bit then lounge around the kiddie pool and read for a couple hours...ahhh Heaven!

Oh, and the game is still going by the way, no one has yet to guess my sister's birthday. If you missed the reason for this game, you can read the background behind the sister fiasco HERE. Again, tell me the DAY of her birthday which is in April. So far the guesses have been 1, 17, 20, 25, 26, 27. Winner gets a magnet, bookmark and stickers. Good luck!

Shots and Scripts

Had one of those mother moments today. My oldest had to get his five year old immunization shot today. It was the first needle he was old enough to understand what exactly that meant. Yikes, not fun for either of us. But he was a trooper. They are mega into Monster Jam/Monster Trucks right now so while trying to make him feel better, I told him to yell out GraveDigger (his favorite, although for those not familiar with monster trucks that does sound like an awful thing to say to a doctor LOL). I told him by the time he yelled it out, the needle would be done and over with. It worked perfectly.

Then the doctor brought out a second needle. My husband and I just looked at each other with an 'oh, crap' look on our faces. This one stung and hurt a bit more but he did great. So good that we ran over to Walmart and picked him up a little monster truck for being such a good sport.

Well, in between day trips to the zoo, up to visit and friend and her family, mini-golfing, and a trip to a different zoo, I've been working on the script for the CataNetwork Reviewers' Choice Awards on Friday. It's been a hoot but more work than I anticipated. I'm loving it, I just could have picked a better week than my husband's holidays LOL.

ESCAPE the Mondayn: Episode # 13

Hello and welcome to our special Pink Carpet episode of ESCAPE the Mondayn, a weekly game show found only on the Sensibly Insane Channel. I'm your host Stacy Dawn and my fabulous gown from is only one of the many dresses you will get to see me in when I host The CataNetwork Reviewers’ Choice Awards this Friday.

And as another treat, we have a special guest with us to spin the prize wheel today. Please welcome hot country music sensation...Tim McGraw!

Well, howdy, Tim.

**tips his hat** Stacy.

**she’s looking him up and down with a wide ol’ grin on her face**

Hmmm...oh, yes, sorry. It’s just that I think you are the first guest we’ve had wearing a cowboy hat and jeans...and nothing else. You look, for lack of a better word...delicious. If ever you get bored of Faith, give me a call, honey.

**chuckles with a boyish grin**

Speaking of your wife. Let’s give the audience a little insider information about the awards ceremony. Why don’t you tell them.

Yes. Faith and I will be singing a duet as part of the entertainment for the show.

Wonderful! You have no idea how pleased I was when you agreed. I know what a busy summer touring you’ve been having. Again, let me thank you for taking the time to join us today and on Friday.

My pleasure. Anything for you, Stacy.

Now, don’t go offering things like that when **raises a wicked brown and waves a hand up and down his body** you’re dressed like that. So, before my mind wanders to far, why don’t you raise those country-boy arms of yours and give our wheel a spin.

I'd be happy to. Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety...tickety...tick. It landed on....**takes his stetson off and leans closer to spinner**

Yes, what is it, Tim?

A Hostess Cupcake?

**her rich laughter fills the studio** Talk about delicious! But no, it’s not the dessert. It is a Hostess Cupcake though, as in Lip gloss keychain. Mmm, chocolate without the calories...could there be anything better?

Before we can find out who's going to get this yummy treat, you need the escape. Here it is:

It’s a gala evening and you are the star! The whole black-tie party is just for you. The time has come for you to make a speech. Your handsome date escorts you up the stairs of the stage and you stand at the podium looking fabulously gorgeous. Cameras are flashing and you begin to speak....FREEZE!

Let yourself escape and tell me what happens next. What is the evening celebrating? Who do you thank? Who is your date **wink**?

Give me two lines, give me twenty, it doesn’t matter. Don't hold back...let yourself escape! Remember, you don't need to be a writer, you don't need to be a reader, heck, you don't even need to be sane if you don't want to be. This is a fun game all about you so don't be shy, don't be a lurker, just dive in and...

We've Been Had!

So, we finally had a winner in the birthday naming contest. If you look in the comments from the last post. Penelope Sanchez guessed the 25th of September....Congratulations...NOT!

I thought it a little unusual that it was anonomous because it's rare. Then again, with all the hoopla around the CataNetwork Reviewers' Choice Awards, I just figured it was a new person and simply went with it--did I mention I was hosting the awards show on Friday the 18th?

You know how you should always go with your gut? I shoulda. Tonight my sister starts asking about my blog. She does occasionally but nothing serious. Well, she was getting into detail then she suddenly just broke up laughing and asked if anyone guessed my birthday...a Penelope Sanchez. Yes, now is when the lightbulb strikes. She's a hoot by the way, love her dearly, admire the crap out of her and she has her moments of brilliance, this being one of them.

I thought the name familiar but it didn't click because she mixed them up. When we were young, we used to play funny games and I always put on a little girls voice and said, "I'm Penelope Petunia Penopscott and I'm only twee and a half years old" It was a skit routine okay. Then as we got in our teens we used to yell across the shopping mall at each other..."Hey Samjose! Hey Sanchez!" and run, hug, and make a big goofball scene...okay, yes, we're weird but we laughed a lot. So as you can see, she took the first of one and the last of the other to create a whole new which she will seriously regret in the near future **insert evil laugh**

If I can just take a moment since the subject is brought up to tell you what an extraordinary woman my sister is. She got pregnant at eighteen. To please my parents married the man (not because they forced but because she thought it would make them happy) The only good thing that came out of the marriage was a second son. It ended when he was still a babe. She raised those two boys on her own for another seven years. She did an awesome job at it too. They are handsome, polite, and wonderful young men right now. During this time she put herself through college (the only one of us who graduated college--I have a post highschool degree from a tech school but not a college or university degree) because she refused to live on government subsidy programs. She is now a legal assistant in a prestigious office in the area. She finally found the right man and they are now married with another daughter plus he brought a sweet daughter into the marriage as well. One of those yours-mine-and-ours families LOL. I am so proud of her and love her dearly! My sister, Penelope Sanchez...better known as Stephanie.

This is us as kids. That's my brother Shawn in the middle. Yeah, Shawn, Stephanie, and Stacy--it was an interestingly annoying childhood as you can tell from our oh so happy expressions. Gotta love kneesocks.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

This is us more recent. Yes, I know we don't look alike, never have as the above can attest too. It's been a family joke since I was born--although she's the adopted one! (just kidding)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

And this **insert evil laugh** this is just for payback. Meet Penelope Sanchez...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

And since she cheated on the date of my birth. The new game is to guess my sister's birthday. First person who guess the day in April gets a the magnet, bookmarks, and stickers.

After I posted this, I sent my sister an e-mail with the title "You shouldna done dat Lucy!" and sent her here. This was her response:

I can't believe you put that picture up there for the whole net to see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOVE YOU MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You wait its not over until its over!!!!!!!!!

I am soooo not scared of you, Stephie! Bring it on!

Wait Til You Hear This!

There are a lot of you who know about or who belong to the CataNetwork already. For those of you who said you haven't been in a while, this is the time to go back.

**Trumpets sounding**

Guess who will be hosting the CataNetwork Reviewers' Choice Awards next week??? I know, too easy....yes, ME!

One of the lovely ladies saw my interview with Madison Chase popped over Monday to see my game show, and e-mailed to ask if I would 'host' their ceremony.

If you think ESCAPE the Mondayn on the Sensibly Insane Channel is entertaining, just wait til you see the Red Carpet ceremony on the CataNetwork. Go HERE to sign up (all free) to their message boards so you don't miss any of the star studded event. There will be sightings, goodies, interviews, and the award ceremony on Friday with moi as host!

So please, spread the news, they want this to be the event of the summer!

And by the way, no one has guess the day of my birthday yet. Check last post's comments to see what's been guessed and give it a try. First one to get it gets a magnet and some bookmarks and anything else I can fit into the envelope LOL.

Big Things Brewing

I am probably one of the few who only recently discovered Cataromance. Actually it's all the CataNetwork: CataRomance, Ecataromance, etc. Well let me tell you, if you write romance you should scoot on over there. It promotes catagory romance, books, authors, readers everyone. A great place to get your name around too.

And there is going to be something going on there next week that you don't want to miss. It's all I can say for now even though I am SCREAMING inside to tell you. And for a hint, no, I haven't sold any stories or anything. This is something fun and hilariously entertaining.

Oh, and since no one guessed my birthday yesterday (check very bottom of yesterday's post and comments) I'll carry it over for another day. First who can tell me the day of my birthday (not month, just day) will get a magnet and some bookmarks.

Windup Wednesday

Whew! It's been a busy few days.

Like I said, I've been deep in the revision cave trying to finish up a line edits on a full to submit. Sunday night, I thought I had so I sent the query to The Wild Rose Press via email thinking I had a few days at least before she'd reply back to do the final final readthrough. It was a holiday weekend for us after all.

Monday morning I'm sitting around the kiddy pool, relaxing, taking my time and doing my final readthrough...and finding the most stupidest seriously, how could I have missed them?? Whew! Glad I had a few days to fix these....uh, no. Okay, everyone put the big L on their forehead and aim it at Stacy. Holiday here, not holiday in the U.S. I get the request for the full Monday afternoon. Can you say excited panic. I spent all day rereading and fixing these mistakes (I mean come on, one section I had actually left in the old character name, sheesh!) They were all simple most being grammatical but with 265 pages, it takes a while. I didn't want to rush but at the same time I didn't want the editor to think I lied when I said it was done. It was, I swear so much so that when I was done the revision edits, I seriously considered leaving it thinking I had covered everything. Sure goes to show you what one extra read-through can pull out. Yikes! So I set myself to work, pulled an all dayer (thankfully hubby had the day off) and shipped that puppy off to the editor last night (hi Roseann!)

Moral of the story: To avoid hyperventilating, give it an extra read through BEFORE you send the query LOL.

Bailey tagged me with a book meme last week so here it is:

One book

1. One book that changed my life:

From Panic to Power by Lucinda Bassett

2. One book that I have read more than once:

I Will Survive by Samantha Connolly. A Harlequin Flipside—if you love Survivor (which yes, I am still addicted to) this book is a must read.

3. One book I would want on a deserted island:

Complete Works of William Shakespeare. Weird you say...what other book can give you romance, tragedies, comedies, poems, sonnets etc all in one big bundle? (yes, I do actually have it on my bookshelf)

4. One book that made me laugh:

Just one? How about the whole Stephanie Plum series from Janet Evanovich.

5. One book that made me cry:

Bridges of Madison County. (though I still think it was the PMS moodswings at the time)

6. One book I wish I'd written:

See # 4.

7. One book I wish had never been written:

Julie S. taught me recently that every book teaches you something...even if it’s the mistakes you DON'T want to make

8. One book I am currently reading:

The Boys are Back in Town, Signature Select Anthology by Jane Graves, Dorien Kelly, and Tanya Michaels

9. One book I have been meaning to read:

What? I can only name one? Impossible.

Hmmm, I think I will tag Kelly, Kelley, and (wish I knew one more Kellie, that would be funny) Jacqui

What else? What else?

Oh yes, don't forget to check below to see who won yesterdays episode of ESCAPE the Mondayn...and the bonus prize.

My newsletter will be coming soon, hopefully around the middle of the month. Don't forget to sign up on the left.

What's your Theory of Love? contest is still going on. You can find the details HERE

And since I love to give things away, to thank those who've read this incredibly long post, all the way to the end, whoever can guess the day (as in number not month) of my birthday (another clue, it's September so don't guess 31 LOL) then I'll send you a couple bookmarks and a magnet. If there are a lot of smart people then I'll randomly pick a winner.

ESCAPE the Mondayn: Episode # 12

Hello and welcome to our Flirty episode of ESCAPE the Mondayn, a weekly game show found only on the Sensibly Insane Channel. I'm your host, Stacy Dawn, and my flirtatious gown today is from

Why Flirty? Because I'll be blogging a flirty post Tuesday at Word Flirts which means with my flirty mood I'm making this another TWO DAY episode! And speaking of flirty...If you want to know more about flirty ole me then check out my recent interview by Madison Chase HERE.

Hmm, I had a hard time choosing who I wanted to join us for this fun and frolicking episode so I took a page out of my own manuscript and invited Josh Duhamel, the oh-so-sexy playboy, Danny McCoy, on T.V.'s Las Vegas. It's Vegas, Baby, how could I not?

Welcome Josh, so glad to have you here.

Thanks, Stacy. I'm happy to be here. **sweeps eyes up and down the hostess** You look...amazing.

Thank you, you flirt you. Before we go any further though, could you please--**she waves her red boa at his chest**--take off the shirt.

Oh, right.

Mmm,mmm, mmm, my favorite part of the show. Now, back to what I was saying about taking a page out of my own manuscript. I've been deep in the revision cave finishing up a fun and flirty full with a sexy playboy. You, Josh, were my inspiration.

**Shrugs a modest half-boyish smile that sparkles in his eyes**

Uh-huh, that's what I'm talking about. And since I'm mere pages away from being done and submitting it, I thought I'd celebrate with the real deal. Sound good to you?

Sounds great. What did you have in mind?

**raises brow with a wicked smile** Lots of things, starting with this red boa but since I try to keep my portion of the show PG, you'll have to wait till after to find out. As for the contestants...well, they pretty much have free reign so I'd watch you cute little backside, honey.

Let's give them a thrill to start with and raise those magnificent arms of yours to spin our wheel and tell us what one lucky contestant will win.

You got it, Stace. Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety...tickety...tick. It landed on an Electronic Fortune Teller?

**laughs** Oh the fun never ends. This little gadget is a flirty version of the magic eight ball. Flirty Pink with flashing lights, ask it what you will and see what it predicts: Yes, Maybe, Perhaps, No, or if it doesn't like the question it will simple flash you to Ask Again. **slow perusal of Josh from melting eyes to sexy bare feet beneath faded jeans** Speaking of flashing....well, yes, uh, saving that thought for later.

Definitely later **said with a direct smoldering gaze**

Okay ladies, I need to make this quick so I can get out of here. Ready? Here's your escape for today:

He's been sitting all alone at the end of the bar matching you darkened, admiring glances for flirty come-hither stares all evening. You don't know who he is but you want him, bad. Nodding a thanks to the bartender for your drink you sashay down to Mr. Sex-in-a-suit and set your glass down beside his on the bar....FREEZE.

Let yourself escape and tell me what happens next. What's your opening line? What's his? Give me two lines or give me twenty, it doesn't matter because it's all flirty fun.

You don't have to be a reader, you don't have to be a writer, heck, you don't even have to be sane if you don't want to be. Just be your flirty self and...

SPECIAL NOTE: Because all this flirtying is making me giddy I've added an extra random draw for a promo pack chosen from those who can tell me how many times the word 'flirt' (in any and all variations) appears within this episode...Good luck and don't forget to catch me Tuesday at Word Flirts for a sensibly insane flirty post.

My Interview...Check it out!

I met some wonerful people the other night. Poor little un-techi me dived into the Cobblestone Chat Room to support Karen's new release Release Me (hot little number LOL) and over the course of the chat Madison Chase invited authors for interviews. Guess who is first up!

You can find my interview HERE. Don't forget to say HI in the comments and let me know what you think.

I also have my first review for Shadows of Moonlight:

A wonderful read! I was enraptured by Stacy Dawn's tale of eternal love.
~by Tonya May

It was posted with the story at The Wild Rose Bookstore's. She captured the essence of my story beautifully. I don't know who she is which makes it even more special (ie: much better than my mother sneaking in a reviewLOL) Tonya if you visit here....I love you! Please e-mail me so I can thank you properly!

Couple reminders:

What's your Theory of Love? contest is still going on. You can enter HERE. The theories so far have been great! Even if you've already entered you should really go back and read them.

Over the centuries, Rick Shayne has loved and lost the same woman four times. Her reappearance only deepens his guilt and he refuses to risk her life or his heart again. Liz Greyson isn’t about to let him off that easy, but will her secret be his saving grace or cast him back into the shadows of moonlight forever.

Available NOW from The Wild Rose Press
Yes, it is actually out and ready for sale...can you say 'blow me away' because that's sure how I feel. Thank you all for the kudos on the title...yeah, I like it a lot better too. And the story, oh, I just love this story.

Please, even if you aren't into the paranormal, give this one a try because it's definately not a traditional one. It's about a love that never dies and how the way we see ourselves is far different from the way others see us. I'd love to hear from anyone who reads it so feel free to e-mail me.
AND if that's not cool enough get this: I received a contract for another story today too. So keep an eye out for A Matching Fancy coming soon. Yeah, it was a good day.

Title Tribulations

Yesterday was an interesting day for me. I don't like to cause waves but I had a major concern with my new story soon to be released.

I received the galleys for my story so I had no choice but to buck up and state my case. The problem was my title. I LOVED it. It fit the story perfectly right to the end where even the last line being the same as the title brought everything together. It must be known that this is a very special story for me, I'd almost say my favorite--a little out there and definately not my humorous stuff but the depth and emotion within still pulls at me and I've read it a thousand times (this is the truth even if it sounds like a shameless plug LOL)

By now you are probably thinking the editor asked me to change it--wrong. I was planning to ask to change it.

You see the title was Between Heaven and Earth, the problem: a newrelease from The Wild Rose Press came out just last week for the same Black Rose line, this one called Between Shadows and Lightening (by Vivienne Lorret by the way and I've heard it's suppose to be good if anyone wants to check it out). Now you see my dilema. Add the almost identical titles to identical covers because the Minature Roses (short stories) share the same covers and yeah...might as well be twins.

So, what does Stacy do?? I spend the whole night fretting, restless, and not getting much sleep because my mind is wrapped around trying to think up a title that would convey the depth of my story and one I could love as much as the origional. I spent the next morning doing pretty much the same thing only in a more frustrated level of anxiety.

Later that morning I gave my husband a coronary which nearly caused an accident as I hollered out my epiphany while in the car on the way to town. It was one of those you think it might work but you're not 100% positive but at the same time it's so much better than the crap I was coming up with.

Now came bringing up the subject to my editor not knowing the procedure and how much extra work it would cause if she even let me change it. So, I apologized profusely, stated my case, pressed send and hoped for the best. Turns out all my worries were for nothing, she was glad I changed it, liked the new title and it didn't cause her but a minute or two of extra work to change both it and the last line of the story (which I had to also rewrite because of the new title). So she sends me back the new galley. I admit I was still hesitant if the whole thing would work the way I wanted it too.! I couldn't believe how incredible the whole thing came together even better than the origional.

Lesson learned: Don't hold on so tight--you just might find letting go brings you so much more.

What's the new title you ask? Everyone keep your eye on The Wild Rose Press bookstore for

Backlogs and Babies No More

myspace code
Myspace Codes:

I am here to officially announce a treacherous, though SUCCESSFUL completion of potty-training. No more diapers....WOOHOO!

As for backlogs, it occurred to me this past week that in life we can never catch up and maybe we aren't meant to.

While we are writing we have those times where life intrudes with a backlog of things you've got to do or have been putting off. Family comes first, no ifs, ands, or buts. So, we take care of them and get ourselves organized again. The happy moment this is contained, we sit down at our desk and find out our writing is now backlogged. During the 'break' new ideas have popped up, new projects, new contests, or if lucky new requests all on top of the stuff you were desperately trying to finish in the first place. We bury ourselves back in our work. Next time we look up, life is backlogged again with laundry, housework, your husband on vacation, the car breaking down, or any number of little or big necessities. Thus starts the cycle over again. Granted, there are those balanced times when everything co-inhabits in a nice orderly manner **snort** yeah, doesn't last long.

I've resigned myself to the fact that this is just the way it is. I don't know if I could handle a Mary-Poppins world where everything was perfect all the time. I think we grow as much when taking care of little problems as we do when we are forced to handle the big ones. We do our best to pull everything together and are rewarded with those special days when projects actually get finished and out the door and you get to share an afternoon of waterfights in the backyard with the kids.
