Finally! Over a year ago I saw these chairs in the store, tried it out, loved the firm back and wanted one for my office. They sold out before I could get it.

They must be a student's chair because as soon as all the school supplies came out they did too. This year they even had PINK! Yes, I wanted a pink office chair. Unfortunately, my work area is in the 'sportsroom' and my pink chair was immediately vitoed (don't worry, I have lots of bright colors in my space that he can't say boo about)

So I was in the store today and the chairs were on sale! Actually only the orange one which was my first choice last year and my second choice from the pink this year. So I get on my cell, convince him orange is much better than pink AND I have birthday money from my mom and VOILA! I have a new office chair. Even better, without me even asking, HE put it together for how cool is that! So this is my chair except picture it in bright orange he he he.

These are COOL!

I just got my supply of flirty girl bookmarks in. (Flirty girl is what I call my logo) They turned out really well--so well in fact that I think I'll hold another Quickie contest!

What Christmas story do I already have published? E-mail me at contests @ (no spaces) with the answer and Quickie in the subject line. All correct answers received by 10pm EST Saturday (Sept 30) will get one of my new bookmarks! (Hint: answer is on my website)

Eureka! A Discovery

It's funny how we do things without even realizing until one night you lie in bed listening to the coyotes howl and Eureka! so that's why I do that. What the heck am I talking about right?

Yes, it has to do with writing and no, it's not really a WOW factor discovery to anyone but me but it kinda took me by surprise because I never really knew I did it.

I'm working on this cowboy story and it's just not flowing as it should. I'm having problems with descriptives etc in between the dialoge. I realized it was due to POV which I needed to keep an eye on. Then last night in bed I made the descision to change it over totally to first person. I was battling myself with this because I didn't want it first but of course fighting yourself against the story always means that you'll lose and end up doing what is best for the story anyway. So okay, I resigned myself to the fact knowing it would make the story stronger and better and more sassy so to speak.

I do find first person easier for me to write than third yet at the same time I've done many stories in third that work out quite well so why does third person seem to give me so much trouble sometimes? Out of the blue my train of thought turned to past stories. The ones I've done in third and the others I've done in first and the same thing holds true for all of them...

If there is two pov's then I can write in third person no problem. If there is only one pov then I have major trouble...every time. Other than one or two which I started in first, all these other stories began in third person but ended up in first. Is that just weird and me or does anyone else do this too? I've read tons of stories from one pov that were written in third person and they're excellent. There doesn't seem to be any different writing technique so why do I have this problem. Or, in truth, is it a problem or just the way my voice choses to be, well, voiced?

I just found it an interesting discover and one which holds true for as far back as I've been writing yet just now comes the understanding behind it.

ESCAPE the Mondayn: Episode # 19: It's Party Time

Welcome to a special episode of ESCAPE the Mondayn! I'm your host, Stacy Dawn, and I've got my party dress on ready for my big day at The Story Board.
I sure hope you can all pop into my birthday party for a bit! ( 9am -6pm EST)

So let's get onto the fun. Since it is my party, I couldn't decide on just one hunk to invite so I added a few of mine...and your favorites.

Hmmm, decisions, decisions...who gets to spin my wheels **winks**

Okay, Matthew, you can go first. Tell these lovely ladies what birthday present they have a chance to win today.

You got it Stacy. And might I add a special Happy Birthday. **kisses Stacy's cheek and caresses lips up to whisper in her ear**

**clears throat, pink heightening her cheeks** Yes, you may definately give me that birthday present later in my dressing room.

**A wicked smile plays on his lips as he reaches big bronze arms up to spin the prize wheel** Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety....tickety...tick. It landed on Mystery Prize.

**laughs** No, don't worry, I won't be recycling any of my birthday presents that I didn't like because, frankly, that's never happened. No, this is simply a mystery prize just like all wrapped up birthday presents are until the unveiling! So, you'll have to play, hope to win the random draw, then wait till the mailman comes to find out your surprise for today.

Hmmm, whose next. After the last blanket fiasco, maybe I'll have Ryan spin the wheel, Jon, and I'll let you do the next part.

**winks** Not a problem, Stace. I've got your present in my dressing room.

Oh goody! Looking forward to it. Go ahead, Ryan, spin the Object Wheel.

**gives other men a once over then winks at Stacy** My gift will be hand delivered tonight.

Thank you. Another something special to look forward too!

You know it. Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety....tickety...tick. It landed on Mystery Prize. The object for today is a piece of ribbon.

A piece of my mind wanders. Before it gets to far, we best get to your escape. Jon, will you give it to them today?

Happy too. Ladies **winks at Lora** Here's your escape:

You just finished a hard day at work. Heading home you hit rush hour traffic but just when things start moving again and the way home looks clear...CRASH... you're rear ended...GO!

Let yourself escape and tell me what happens next.

Give me two lines or give me twenty, it doesn't matter but remember to incorporate a piece of ribbon into your comments. Don't be shy, don't be a lurker, just dive in and...

Don't forget, you are all invited to my all day Birthday Party TODAY 9am-6pm EST at

The Story Board

This, That, and Party Plans

I've been working on a new short story. The first rough draft is done but I'm having problems with their initial meeting scene. You know, getting past the "Hello my name is" bores. My friend sent me a minature crystal ball for my birthday for couldn't have come at a better time. I don't know a lot about New Age stuff but it's cool and the readings she sent on it are pretty neat too.

My house is still backlogged although the laundry is now up to date. I think it's time for Fall Cleaning. Digging, dusting, scrubbing, and pretty much just like spring cleaning except this time it's to get ready for the upcoming holidays and decorations to go with them (if you think this is early, remember that our Canadian Thanksgiving is on October 9th). I think I'll take a room a day next week and see if I can't get it all put back together by next weekend. Ugh, wish me luck!

I've been putting together loot bags for my Birthday Party at The Story Board ( and for fun, I think I'll put some balloons on my desk. It's running all day Monday so I really hope you can pop in for a visit!

It's OUT!

Playing around with ways to let a co-worker know she wants to share more than just ‘the look’ over the staffroom coffeemaker, a nervous newspaper employee inadvertently sends him a made-up classified ad. Will her colossal mistake put her in next week’s gossip column or land her the best deal of her life?

Available now from The Wild Rose Press

This is a funny story about getting up the nerve to make the first move. And don't forget to enter my What's Your First Move? contest to tell me your first move stories!

ESCAPE the Mondayn: Episode #18

Welcome to another episode of ESCAPE the Mondayn here on the Sensibly Insane Channel. I'm your host, Stacy Dawn, and I'm so happy you could join us.

I’ll quickly let you know that this is another TWO DAY episode so lots of time to play. And please join me tomorrow, Tuesday, at Word Flirts for my regularly scheduled sensibly insane musings!

Decisions, decisions, decisions. I had three acceptances from hunky celebrities this week and I just couldn’t decide whom to invite for today’s episode. So, I wrote back and asked them all to send me an audition photo—shirtless. The moment I opened this envelope, the decision was made.

Please welcome our guest celebrity spinner for today, hunky Ryan Reynolds!

Welcome, Ryan.

**flashes smile** Thanks for choosing me today.

Oh, honey, after that picture, there was no choice about it. Did I ever mention I love a man in water?

**knowing wink**

Why you sly dog! **peruses him up and down** Or should I say clever, clever, man.

**clears throat** Yes, well, we’ll talk about that later, preferably in the studio's hot tub. For now, I’ll get you to spin the prize wheel and see what one lucky contestant could win today.

You got it. Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety...tickety...tick. It’s a Beaches Clip Calendar.

Mmmm, more pictures of luscious watery beaches on a handy clip to your purse or knapsack calendar. Why don’t you head on over to the Object Wheel and see what our contestants have to encorporate into their entries this week.

**studio lights glint off arms kissed golden by the sun** Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety...tickety...tick.

And what is the object for today?

It landed on a pair of water wings.

**sultry laugh** I like a themed episode.

Okay ladies, here’s your escape:

You’re car broke down on the longest, most deserted desert road. The sun is blazing down and there’s not a cloud in sight. Shading your eyes, you see the dry dirt billowing out in the distance coming closer and closer. An old red Ford truck pulls up and the door opens....GO!

Let yourself escape and tell me what happens next. Don’t forget to get those water wings in there somewhere!

Give me two lines or give me twenty it doesn’t matter. Open your mind and let yourself...

Remember to visit me Tuesday at Word Flirts!

OMG that Pile is HUGE!!

I don't think I've ever seen such a humongous pile of laundry...yikes. I guess I should have looked up once or twice from the monitor LOL. I just figured if the kids were clean fed and happy then everything else could wait.....hmmm, I might have to rethink that theory next time LOL.

Congratulations to Jeanne (catslady) who won yesterday's Find it Friday contest!!

That had to be the weirdest writing process I've ever been through. And talk about cutting it close. I sent the entry in at 6:45 tonight and the good thing is that I was happy with it...I didn't just send in something to get it in but worked my tail off to make sure it was up to par.

Trust me, my house has suffered for my art these past two week while the story took twists and turns which had me pulling out hair and playing cut and paste on the floor. It will take me another week to clean it out LOL.

So, hopefully my entry gets a read but as for now there is nothing more I can do so I'm taking the night to RELAX!

Find it Friday

Okay, I know I'm going off on the titles but they're becoming fun!

I think I had a topic to blog about today but I totally forgot it. Today is D-day as in deadline-have-to-get--it-in-or-the-editor-will-never-trust-me-again day. The good part is that I have a solid 15K story...the bad part is that I still have to tidy it up and add one or two little details like types of flowers, plants, how to plant them etc because the theme we needed to use is a garden story and um, I don't know a lot about comes mother. I can see her garden from my window and an hour with her should make the story plausible and maybe even give it a little oomph. If you're asking why I waited until the last minute to have this little chat?....she's been on holidays in P.E.I for three weeks LOL.

So for Find it Friday today and to keep with the theme, I have a lovely "In the Garden" 2007 desk calendar up for grabs. Find the item "Prince Charming" was carrying in the very first story I ever published. Hint: it's on my website. E-mail your answer with Find it Friday in the subject line to I'll even send all entries a bookmark and pick a random name tomorrow morning for the calendar.

Have a great day!

Bra-less Wednesday Part II: Thespian Thursday

Yesterdays post brought out a number of interesting views both in thought and visual LOL.

The most interesting was an e-mail I received. First, I will say it is from a good friend so not to be taken in any offense. Second, he's a guy so right there, you have to give him a bit of a break LOL.

He begins the letter by describing his observations about 'dressing the part' in his workplace and how sometimes you can't tell a person by their cover so to speak. Here is a quote of the latter half of his note:

You said you write in sweats and t-shirt. Yet when I look at your
blog site, I see pictures of gowns and dresses. A brief look at **'s
books, shows well dressed heroines. Almost every one has
a picture/sketch/artwork of a female, in a dress and high heels on the cover.
The question comes down to "can you write romances while dressed in
non-romantic clothes?" And trust me, sweats and baggy t-shirts aren't
romantic. Would you write better if you dressed the part? Maybe you
should try wearing a formal gown and heels while writing. Maybe you should
try this when your kids and Ken are away so they don't call a doctor or lock you
up however. :)

Please don't take any of the above too seriously. But I bet you get
quite a few responses on this one.

Now, obviously a few of his points leave much to be desired, the one that comes to mind most for me is that T-shirts and sweats are not romantic...I'll leave that one for his wife to deal with LOL.

But he does bring up an interesting point. Romantic Heroines are portrayed most often 'dressed for the part' Try to think of any covers you've ever seen with the woman NOT in heels? Please tell me if you know them because I don't.

What does this say about my writing then when my current piece involves a landscaper heroine who is more comfortable in dirt? Am I more comfortable writing about lesser, shall we say, vain heroines because I myself wouldn't know the name of a shoe designer if I read it on a billboard?

So taking the 'dressing for success' theory of yesterday, would literally 'dressing for the part' make a difference in the writing? If I dressed for a night on the town before I wrote, would a nightclub scene be more indepth and real? Would wearing a tiara get me in the mood to write a fairytale story? Does writing naked make your erotic scenes come easier(no pun intended, though it is kinda funny LOL) ? Dressed all in black for a thief, in medieval gown for a historical, combat boots for a military get my point. In other words, will staging yourself at your desk for a day make a difference?

This is all in fun, mind you but I thought the concept very interesting and have to give my friend credit for his intuitiveness. Maybe someday I'll give his theory a never know, it might help.

So, of course I have to ask...have you or would you dress up for your characters??

Bra-less Wednesday

That got your attention didn't it!

Actually, it's more...bra-less or not?

You see, we ran into town the other day to get groceries and with my deadline looming dangerously close, as soon as we got back I went right to work. I got quite a bit done too. Later in the afternoon it occurred to me that I was in more formal garb than my usual work attire of track pants and t-shirt. The biggest difference was the bra. More than you need to know but most of the time if I know I'm at home all day, I let the girls have a little freedom.

So all this got me wondering if I worked better 'dressed for success' or not. I used to work a 9-5 job, nylons and all **cringe**, very professional looking. Since being at home, of course I don't bother with most of that except for specific events. Does it make a difference in my mental attitude if I 'feel' more professional when I write? Should I be putting on the bra and maybe a nice pair of jeans and a casual-dressy shirt to 'go to work' at my desk. Will this influence my writing?

I know this is getting personal but I'd really like to know or have a little poll on this. Bra or Bra-less? Does how you dress for writing make a difference to how you write??

Remember, the Quickie contest ends tonight. All the details are at the bottom of yesterdays post!

Wedding Days and School Daze

Today, my husband and I are celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary. That would mean we've been together ten years now. Wow, where does the time go? It honestly seems like just yesterday he was trying to hit on my co-worker and totally ignoring me--oh, that's a true story LOL. Same as when we were finally dating, everyone thought he was dating my other co-worker. Ah yes, the good old days. He's a wonderful man giving me unfailing love and support and here I am making him iron his own must be love!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

So, if this is such a special day then why do I feel that I just gave my son away to a stranger??

Yes, I'm still a paranoid mother who just sent her son to kindergarten on a bus. He's the first one picked up so that could lend to my ridiculous mind games. You need to remember though was raised a city girl who walked to school so the daily school bus is still new to me especially when the poor little guy lookes like he's climbing Mount Everest as he gets into the yellow beast that swallows children.

I'll come back down to earth when he's returned safely and by June, won't even have these thoughts more than once or twice a day instead of once or twice an hour.

It's the first day back to school, what can I say?

So, to celebrate my anniversary and distract from my paranoia I'm gonna have another Quickie contest. My children are my treasures. Visit my website and tell me who published my story 'Hidden Treasures'. Simply as that.

Email me at with the subject line Quickie and your answer. I'll send all the right answers a magnet, bookmark, and whatever else I can fit into the envelope. Hurry up because this quickie ends midnight Wednesday!

ESCAPE the Mondayn: Episode # 17

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Welcome to another episode of ESCAPE the Mondayn. I think I'm your host, Stacy Dawn, but I can't be sure. I was up partying all night at The Wild Rose Press Grand Opening yesterday and am a little out of it today. It was wild, believe me.

So, before I fall into his arms with weariness, please welcome our guest celebrity spinner today...Matthew McConaughey! Yes, I had to sneak him out of a certain someone's house last night because SHE thought she could hog him. Welcome, Matthew.

Thank you, Stacy. You know you're the only woman for me though, right.

*pats his cheek* Of course I do. Now, why don't you spin those two wheels so we can get out of here and take a nap. *wink*

You got it. Here goes the prize wheel. Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety...tickety...tick. It landed on a Lollypop Lipgloss.

Ooh, this is a fun prize. Six different color lip glosses in a heart lolly pop case. And what is our word for today, Matthew.

*walks over to Object Wheel* Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety....tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety...tickety...tick. It's a cow.

*snickers* See, I told you last week that I wasn't going to make it easy anymore. Now for the escape:

You just settled into your airplane seat with dreams of sandy beaches, moonlit, nights and margaritas on your mind. Just before they close the door a familiar voice yells, "Hold up, I'm on this flight." You look up and...FREEZE.

Let yourself escape and tell me what happens next. Give me two lines or give me twenty, it doesn't matter but remember, you must use the word 'cow' somewhere in your comment.

So open your imagination and turn off your doubts. You don't have to be a writer, you don't have to be a reader. Heck, you don't even have to be sane if you don't want to be. Just start your fingers typing and....

Cut and Paste

In a carry over from my post at Word Flirts, I spent last night sitting on the floor with my current story spread around me and cut and pasted the thing together--literally. We're talking scissors, glue, stapler and highlighter. Ugh.

Not pretty but I think I got a workable pile that I will now start a new document for and do the same cut and paste on the computer today. Hopefully by tomorrow, I'll have a legible copy to send to my crit partners.

Speaking of crit partners, I did something else unusual for this piece too. As I read it over I tried to pretend it was something one of them sent me to critique, not mine. I even made suggestions or kudos like I would as if it were theirs. It's amazing how in another mind set it was easier to pick out what was working and what wasn't.

And as promised, here is my next contest... **drum rolls and horns**....

Shadows of Moonlight Contest

Visit my website or The Wild Rose Press Bookstore and read the blurb for Shadows of Moonlight. All you have to do is tell me how many times his wife's spirit has returned. It's not a trick question but don't be fooled by the number you see. Email the answer to me at

It’s as simple as that. I’ll pick a name from all the correct answers and the winner will receive a beautiful oversized floral journal (10 ½ x 8) and a writing pen.

If you would like to purchase my story (thank you so so much if you do) and you include the actual names of each woman in your email then you will be entered into a second special draw for a Strawberry Daiquiri Pedicure set including lotion, emery board, nail brush, and slippers.

I’ll announce the winners in my next Newsletter, which will come out around the 16th of September (so get those answers in soon!). If you’re not already signed up for my newsletter, don’t worry. You can find the sign up here on my blog to the left there. (it only comes out once a month so don’t worry about cluttered email)

Good luck everyone!

Don't forget to look below to see who won yesterdays ESCAPE the Mondayn episode. We're still cleaning up the drool LOL.

Okay, and now for the winner. All the names went into the hat and the winner this week is....Jenna! Congratulations. Send me an email at contests at with your address and I'll get the Belly Button Jewelry out to you!

**tsks with a shake of her head** Jon...Jon...Jon...I told you to put some pants on before you came out. What will Bebe and our contestants think?

**contestant row shouts exactly what they think with emphatic whistles and cat calls**

**Sly smile**

Well, seems we have a mutual consent to stay as you are. Hmmm, better keep a good hold of that blanket while you spin our wheel **winks**

You got it. Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety...tickety...tick.

And what will one lucky, randomly drawn contestant win today?

It’s Belly Button Jewelry. Niiiice.

**laughs** Don't worry contestants, you don't have to be pierced to use this bejewelled little piece of body art.

Now, for the big change to our game. We have a new second wheel--our Object Wheel. Whatever it lands on has to be incorporated into your escape answers. So, Jon, head on over to the next wheel and give us a spin.

**wicked grin to audience** Oops. Sorry, didn’t mean to stand on the blanket.

**laughing as he bends to pick quilt up off the floor** I’ll bet. **reaches luscious biceps up to spin larger wheel** Tickety-tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety-tickety...tickety-tickety...tickety...tick. The object for today is a toothbrush.

Excellent. Everyone ready? Here is your escape and I'll even make it easy for our first edition (don't expect it to be so next week **evil laugh**):

A gorgeous scene shines back from the postcard your heroine is holding...GO.

Let yourself escape and tell me what she’s thinking, doing, or anything else you want to make up. Simple as that but don't forget to include today's object, a toothbrush, somewhere in the scene!

Give me two lines or give me twenty it doesn’t matter. Open your mind and let yourself...

Remember check out Word Flirts on Tuesday for my brand new contest!

We're Having a Party!!!!

We are blowing our horns and whistles celebrating the official Grand Opening of The Wild Rose Press!

Come join us on September 10th at 8pm EST in their chat room for the party. Meet with authors, editors...oh, and me too LOL. It should be lots of fun and don't forget the giveaways and door prizes!!

Hmmm, I think it's time I thought up a new contest soon too. What do you think? Stay tuned.

I hope you all have a great Labour Day weekend! Hubby is working so it will be quiet here. I've given myself a small challenge to see how many pages I can get done over the three days.
